The EP100 program showcases international corporations voluntarily committed to doubling their energy productivity. The Climate Group, together with the Global Alliance for Energy Productivity, recently highlighted the progress of the initiative at COP22.

EP100 signatory Swiss Re is committed to achieving carbon neutrality, and has pledged to become 100% powered by renewable electricity by 2020. The company is on track to achieve this via:

  • ensuring its operations are as energy efficient as possible
  • focusing on renewable energy sources
  • buying carbon offsets for CO2 emissions.

Swiss Re's next headquarters in Zurich will consume 80% less energy per employee than in the company’s previous office. The company is installing smaller solar plants with capacities of 50 to 100kW on the rooftops of some of its offices in Switzerland, Italy and the UK.

Recently, construction began on 2MW solar power plant at Swiss Re America’s headquarters in New York. Ground-mounted solar panels will generate more than 60% of power requirements.
