Retro-electric: classic cars zapped back to life

American company EV Wilderness are transforming old, petrol-guzzling cars into electric vehicles as a step towards reducing carbon emissions. ‘Essentially it’s a recycling business because you’re taking a car from the scrapyard and giving it a longer life. If you could show auto shops all over the world how to do this work, it could produce a big change,’ says EV Wilderness owner Brian Berrett.

Cool roof oasis in the heat island

Roof tiles contribute to higher energy costs and the urban heat island effect. The solution may be a simple black-and-white decision. On a hot day, a black roof can be more than 40°C hotter than ambient air temperature, while a cool roof would only be less than 10°C warmer.
