Renewables almost half of new energy projects
According to the latest 'Electricity generation major projects' report released by the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE), renewables account for almost half of the proposed new capacity in the generation investment pipeline.
The report provides an annual survey of major projects across all significant areas of electricity generation including renewable and non-renewable sources. It draws on data from companies and government sources.
The report shows there is 42,947MW of planned capacity, based on 163 projects in the investment pipeline. The projects have a combined disclosed value of $58.5 billion. Renewables cover 48 per cent of the planned capacity, gas-fired generation projects represent 35 per cent and coal-fired projects account for 7 per cent.
